As a non-medical provider, a doula provides a calming presence and support to individuals and families at the end of life. A doula offers space for listening and meaningful conversation as well as education on the dying process, communication with providers, assistance with activities of daily living, practical household management, various types of planning, and attention to the details of a families life.
When is the right time to call an End of Life Doula?
The time to call is when you begin planning your end of life. Ideally, you have a relationship established so that when it's time, you have the support you need with just a phone call. Many of the planning services available will ease pressure allowing precious time with loved ones.
Are End of Life Doulas covered by insurance
No. Typically neither private insurance nor medicare cover the services of an end of life doula. Similar to other professional services, end of life doulas are usually private pay.
